Change Detection in Mire Ecosystems: Assessing Changes of Forest Area Using Airborne Remote Sensing Data

چکیده
The objective of this paper is to present an approach for assessing tree growth and shrub encroachment between 1997 and 2002 in open mire land using CIR-aerial images, DSMs and LiDAR data. The study area is located in the Pre-alpine zone of Central Switzerland. The present study was carried out in the framework of the Swiss Mire Protection Program, where changes of forest area are a key issue. Automatic DSMs were generated from CIRaerial images of 1997 and 2002. This automated DSM generation is based on high accuracy, intelligent matching methods developed at ETHZ which are able to produce very dense and detailed DSMs that allow a good 3D modelling of trees and shrubs, and a multitemporal analysis of their growth pattern. Forest masks from both years of various levels of detail were then generated combining canopy covers derived from the DSMs using multi-resolution segmentation and a fuzzy classification. On the basis of these forest masks fractional tree/shrub covers were generated using explanatory variables derived from the DSMs and logistic regression models. The models reveal a general decrease of forest area between 1997 and 2002. On the other side, the models also indicate real shrub encroachment and tree growth in open mire land. * Corresponding author

Application of Remote Sensing in Assessing Land Use Changes in Haraz Watershed
Aims: Land-use change due to human activities is one of the important issues in regional and development planning. The aim of this study was to detect land-use changes using Landsat TM, ETM+, IRS and ASTER satellite imagery. Methodology: In this quasi-experimental study, land-use changes in the Haraz watershed over a 23-year period were evaluated. For this study, images of 1992 TM, ETM + 2002, ...
متن کاملDetection of Land Use Changes for Thirty Years Using Remote Sensing and GIS (Case Study: Ardestan Area)
Due to the increase of changes in the land uses mainly resulting from humaninterferences, monitoring the changes and evaluating their trend and environmental effectsfor future planning and management are essential. In the present study, an attempt is madeto observe the changes which had occurred in Ardestan area during a period of 30 yearsusing some satellite images. Different kinds of data for...
متن کاملAssessing Geomorphologic Changes of the Mehran River Delta using Remote Sensing and GIS (Bandar Lenga, Hormozgan Province)
Delta areas are dynamic features with changes occurring at many spatial and temporal scales due to catastrophic events. Change detection and providing a fluvial map of changes are the main requirements for environmental and zonal planners in many studies. Geomorphic changes such as temporal and periodic changes in riverbeds are common events in all delta areas. The Mehran river delta is located...
متن کاملEvaluation of Land Cover Changes Ysing Remote Sensing Technique (Case study: Hableh Rood Subwatershed of Shahrabad Basin)
The growing population and increasing socio-economic necessities creates a pressure on land use/land cover. Nowadays, land use change detection using remote sensing data provides quantitative and timely information for management and evaluation of natural resources. This study investigates the land use changes in part of Hableh Rood Watershed of Iran using Landsat 7 and 8 (Sensor ETM+ and OLI) ...

Abstract Decadal changes in land use/land cover for Balachaur watershed in Nawanshahar district, Punjab, India were studied using black and white aerial photographs for March 1984 on approximately 1:20,000 scale and multidate geocoded false colour composites (FCC) of IRS-1D LISS-III on 1:50,000 scale for March 2002, September 2002, and May 2003 and interpreted visually to prepare land use/land...
